Prestonfield House Edinburgh

Prestonfield House Edinburgh, was the wedding venue of choice for the beautiful Jo and her husband David.

The wedding

Jo and Dave had a small intimate wedding with just 40 of their nearest and dearest present. This included 9 bridesmaids, which was a first for me! Jo has so many close girlfriends that she could not choose. So they were all shown love by being at her side on the big day.

I loved including Teddy (their dog) in the photos. He is their little baby and such a cutie. He literally looks like a Teddy Bear!

Jo and Dave got married and had their reception in the beautiful Garden Room. With its discreet location downstairs, its bright and charming ambience and hand-painted Chinoiserie walls and Chinese pots. It really is a hidden gem. There is even an exclusive hidden terrace shaded by pots of olive trees and filled with planters of herbs. Making it the perfect location for every special celebration. We used this location for couple portraits of Jo and Dave.

The Ceremony

I loved their ceremony room, it is cosy and luxurious. They had a string quartet that set the tone for the ceremony. Beautiful music played during the bride and maids’ entrance and for the register’s signing.

There was nothing quiet about this ceremony, it was so loud and so much fun, it just summed up these two perfectly! So much laughter and participation from the audience, that you would have thought it was a room of 100 people!
Their celebrant Halde Pottinger (who had also been my own wedding celebrant, which was pretty special to see him again!) kept the mood of the ceremony light and so much fun. A lot like Jo and Dave’s personalities.

There were emotional times too remembering their dads who are no longer with us.  Each had a frame on the mantlepiece next to them as they said their vows!
My highlight of the ceremony has to be when Halde pronounced them man and wife. Jo turned to the audience to do a moustache to herself with her husband’s finger (in a joke I think!) and their dog Teddy jumped for joy right in front of them for the photo!

After the ceremony in the Garden Room, we ventured out into the sunshine as the light rain had just passed in time. We got some lovely friends and family photos on the lawn with some drinks and canapes. We then went up to enjoy more music and a pre-drinks reception in the Leather Room, which is stunning and decorated with seventeenth-century Spanish leather, recently restored to its original glory.

I waited until we had some lovely low light, as September evening you can expect to get some sunset shots if it’s been a nice day, and that we did! We ventured around the grounds of Prestonfield House to create some magic, with Teddy the dog by their side!

The Venue

The unique Prestonfield House is a little gem in the Heart of Edinburgh City Centre and is a luxury five-star venue to tie the knot.

James Thomson’s Prestonfield House is one of Edinburgh’s finest historic buildings, just five minutes from Edinburgh’s Old Town and it offers the privacy and seclusion of a country estate right in the heart of Edinburgh. There are usually peacocks circling the grounds of Prestonfield House however Jo & Dave’s wee pal Teddy the dog may have had something to do with the fact we couldn’t spot any on their day!-
