Following Covid and all the things that have happened the last few years, many are opting for Planning Small Weddings
It can be such a beautiful and intimate way to celebrate. I love photographing small weddings as much as the bigger ones. There are many beautiful moments.
What classes as a small wedding?
Well they say that the average wedding size is 75-150 guests. A large wedding is 150 plus.
Then you have the next level down 50 – 75 which is often called an intimate wedding.
A small wedding is classed as less than 50 guests.
Lastly, you may hear of micro wedding or minimony – this is a wedding of 15 guests or less.
Your budget
A smaller wedding can allow you to have more of the things you want. With less guests you may be able to reallocate your funds. You could use this on a photographer you want, or maybe when you looked at a big wedding you couldn’t have the DJ you wanted but now you can.
Your guests
Figure out who is the most important to you. It is easy to get dragged into a family member (yep I have seen this happen) trying to get you to invite your great Aunt Twice removed who hasn’t seen you since birth.
It is ok to have the small wedding you want, it is your day. Most who love and value you will be ok with your choices.
If you’re struggling to choose who to invite. Look through your phone and ask yourself if you have spoken to that person in the last 3 months? Other than our long-term 18 year plus friends, who we pick up with as if we had never been apart. The people we speak to regularly are the people closest.
Be Transparent and have a conversation with people you know who would expect to come what and why you are having a small wedding. Getting this done early on helps. Don’t keep putting it off to the last minute.
Don't forget about zoom
For those who you know really want to see the wedding. You could always bring zoom into the ceremony. Today after Covid, many venues are allowing zoom to happen (as long as everyone is on mute).
This is an option to look into if you think you would like someone who you just can’t fit to enjoy it.
You can make things even more special
With a smaller guest list, you can customize more. Making the details of your wedding even more special.
You can take the time to handwrite your invitations. Or make all the little gifts/favors yourself. You could even do personalized place cards for each guest too.
All of which will be extra special to those who attend.
Most importantly
Just do YOU! It’s your wedding day. A special day for two people that love each other. This day is all about you two. If you want a small wedding then enjoy that. You want to remember this day as one of the highlights of life. To do that you need to be and do you. To celebrate in a way that makes you happy. Be that a Big wedding or a smaller one.
Planning Small Weddings is easy when you follow your heart and your vision.
