When Iain and Caitlan booked me for their Folkerton Mill wedding I was over the moon.
The wedding
It was very relaxed and everything just flowed so well. From the ceremony just over the bridge on the lawn overlooking the Mill to the drinks and canapés in the rustic courtyard. Moving up to the Barn for the evening dinner and party.
Caitlan’s Veil constantly flew away, even when walking down the aisle to see Iain. A friend had to step in to help.
Caitlan’s dad was very emotional during this speech.
The dancefloor was jam-packed all night long and
The Venue
Folkerton Mill is a grade B-listed grain mill. Records suggest that a Mill has been on its South Lanarkshire site since the 1700s. With the most recent collection of beautifully crafted stone buildings built in 1871. The Mill was working as recently as the 1970s and the large cast iron water wheel is still intact. It is visible on the side of the Mill from the garden.
So much of the physical history of the Mill still remains. It’s as if the Miller switched off the machinery one day. Just hung up his tools, closed the door and never came back. Tin cans and tools still hang on the wooden pillars that support beams. The leather grain belt still remains on the pulley system. Plus the large iron cogs that were driven by the wheel are still in place in the wheelhouse.
Weddings are limited at this amazing venue with only a handful available so as to preserve the amazing building.
